Default Why do carrots spark in the microwave?

Don't ask why I'm posting this at 3:30 am.

Does anyone have any idea WHY in the hell my carrots are sparking in the microwave? I'm not talking little baby sparks here...........I'm saying it looks like someone is mig welding in my microwave!

The carrots arc like mad. They are in a microwave safe glass bowl. No butter or anything of that nature. And FYI, the microwave is a newish (<1 year old) 1100 watt oven.

I've only seen this happen with one other food: diced ham. I attribute the ham sparks to the grease in the ham (although if that's true, why doesn't beef and chicken do that?).

Ideas (other than go to bed, Michelle)?

It's the mineral deposits within the carrots now go to bed

When they genetically enhanced the carrots, they spliced in the DNA from a life form which resides in Area 51.

Unfortunately, that life form turned out to be semi-metalic, turning your carrots into arc welding munchies at 3am.

Good answers, but I think the mineral deposits would be the most likely reason.

Wonder if that's the same Dave Barry that evaluated fast-food items weekly?

High voltage? That's just scary! I don't think I'll be microwaving carrots (or diced ham) again anytime soon.

Try holding down the lever on your toaster with some pop-tarts in it ... between that and the carrots in the nuker you can hire yourself out to do 4th of July displays ...
Everything I've ever heard was either a lie, incorrect or a fact. Not good odds for making life's decisions.

Really? Now you KNOW I'm going to try it, merely because the only Pop Tarts I have left are the s'mores variety, and I can't stand them.
